I researched, pitched and photographed this story for The New York Times in April 2020, the beginning of pandemic restrictions during the first American wave of Covid-19.

Suddenly, collectively, we couldn’t be together anymore. I wanted to give seniors a chance to express their grief surrounding the abrupt end of their high school careers. Although intense suffering abounded during this time, their sense of loss was still valid.
